Museveni Commissions Marine Pier
President Yoweri   Museveni commissioned a Marine Pier at the Sustainable Base in Ntokoro, Mayuge District. The President explained that the Marine Brigade is very vital in ensuring security on water bodies. Â
The President highlighted the security implications Uganda faces with 20 percent of the country being under fresh water, some of it is on the borders with Tanzania, Kenya, and DR Congo.
“These boats have always had some good capacity; they are “eyes” that see some distance, but we are also planning to have “eyes” based on shore. We shall be able to have surface radars which can see in the lakes and then communicate with these boats,” he said.Â
He urged the marine officers to study the whole history of naval warfare to enhance their capacity to deal with water security matters. Â
The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, thanked the President for establishing the Marine Brigade as part of his long-term strategic vision for the development of this country. Â
The Commandant of the Marine Brigade, Brig Gen. Michael Nyarwa welcomed the President to the Marine base and thanked him for the guidance he has given to them all this time.
