State Minister for Privatisation and Investment Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi on Wednesday met a delegation of investors from Qatar. The meeting was also attended by Dr Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Sudan, Chad, Eritrea and Morocco, and Hajji Moses Kagwa, the Director of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The Qatar delegation is seeking to expand investments in Uganda. The Qatar investors plan to add six more factories in Uganda to drive industrialisation, job creation, and economic growth in the country.

Mukalazi reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing the necessary support and guidance to investors throughout their investment journey in Uganda.

Dr Rashid Ssemuddu and Hajji Kagwa said Uganda-Qatar ties are stronger today following President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s June talks with another Qatar investors delegation on sectors, including food processing and energy production.

Minister Mukalazi said she was pleased to receive the delegation of investors from Qatar. She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting and facilitating their investment efforts in Uganda.

The planned expansion underscores the investors’ growing confidence in Uganda as a strategic investment destination and reflects the potential for deeper economic cooperation between Uganda and Qatar.

“I appreciated the investors’ confidence in Uganda and welcomed their plans to expand from four to 10 factories, creating opportunities for industrialisation, jobs and increased economic activity,” Mukalazi said.

She added that the government remains committed to strengthening investment partnerships with Qatar and creating an enabling environment for these investors to establish and expand their businesses in the country.

Dr Ssemuddu said that the investors already have a presence in Uganda. He added that while they currently operate about four factories in Uganda, they plan to expand operations to as many factories as possible.
