Uganda Needs More Exporting Companies – PSST Ggoobi
Uganda needs more exporting companies, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has said.
Ggoobi made the statement while visiting Engo Holdings Group Ltd, a mobile phone (SIMI) & computer manufacturing & assembling factory at Kampala Industrial and Business Park (Namanve Industrial Park).
“[The] government policy is to facilitate Investors to make money, but also to help Uganda to transform,” Ggoobi said.
Ggoobi who was accompanied by the Director of Economic Affairs Moses Kaggwa assured the Group CEO, Ares Zhou, that government is ready to support him to be the leading ICT industry in Africa.
The Uganda-made SIMI mobile phones are exported to Morocco, DRC, Kenya and Tanzania.
The Group CEO urged the government to stamp out the smuggling of cheap mobile phones to Uganda & also partner with his company to promote the SIMI brand, the Ugandan brand.
Kagwa thanked the company for employing the young people of Uganda (250 employees). “We are looking at how to make smartphones cheaper and affordable to the majority of the people in Uganda,” said Kaggwa.
