POSTCOM platform unveiled to facilitate businesses
Managing Director Posta Uganda Launching POSTCOM at Uganda Media Centre Kampala
In its quest to align more sectors to the Buy Uganda Build Uganda initiative, the government has announced the formation of POSTCOM, an e-commerce platform designed to connect Ugandan businesses to both local and global markets.
Posta Uganda, an agency under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, launched POSTCOM to link Ugandan businesses with national and international markets. The unveiling of POSTCOM on April 21, 2026, at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, marks a significant shift in the postal service’s role, from traditional mail delivery to a digitally-enabled logistics and trade ecosystem.
The POSTCOM platform, the first such initiative in the country, is to use Posta Uganda’s nationwide physical network with a digital marketplace, creating a structured system for buying, selling, and delivering goods across Uganda and beyond.
With more than 100 Posta Uganda branches countrywide and established last-mile delivery routes, POSTCOM now positions the postal service as a central player in Uganda’s growing digital economy.
State Minister for National Guidance, Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga, described the platform as a practical step in advancing Uganda’s digital transformation agenda. He said that POSTCOM provides a direct pathway for micro, small and medium enterprises to access wider markets.
“POSTCOM will provide a national e-commerce platform that empowers citizens to buy and sell products online, while enabling MSMEs to reach broader markets both locally and globally,” he said.
The Posta Uganda Managing Director, James Arinaitwe, described the platform as a significant shift in how Posta delivers value to its clients.
“We are not just delivering parcels; we are delivering opportunities. With POSTCOM, we are combining technology and logistics to enable Ugandans to buy and sell online while we handle delivery efficiently and affordably across the country,” Arinaitwe said.
He reiterated that the platform will enable Ugandan businesses to access international markets, adding that sellers can now reach customers in up to 192 countries through a system built on trusted postal infrastructure.
Posta Uganda Board Chairperson Sulaiman Kirunda Balyejjusa emphasised the role of Posta Uganda’s nationwide presence in improving access to services.
“Posta Uganda stands on a strong foundation of both physical infrastructure and digital capability, enabling us to serve communities across the country effectively. With post offices in every district, citizens can access services without making unnecessary travels,” Balyejjusa said.
POSTCOM is designed as an inclusive platform that offers Ugandans a simple, accessible way to participate in digital trade. It supports the government’s broader push for digital inclusion, export growth, and the promotion of locally made products under initiatives such as Buy Uganda, Build Uganda.
The POSTCOM platform also aligns with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap, which seeks to expand digital access, improve service delivery, and strengthen economic competitiveness. By turning post offices into e-commerce access points, POSTCOM will effectively transform the postal network into a national marketplace.
The POSTCOM launch also saw the signing of a commemorative board and a symbolic exchange of gifts among partners, reflecting the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
With POSTCOM now available, Posta Uganda is positioning itself at the intersection of logistics and digital trade, offering Ugandans a single system where Ugandans can engage in online commerce, reach new markets, and rely on a trusted countrywide delivery network.
