Northern Uganda Gets MAAIF Tractors To Mechanize Agriculture
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has handed over 28 tractors ( 75HP) & 340 walk-behind tractors (single axle 16HP) to all the 28 districts of Lango, Acholi & West Nile sub-regions.
According to Frank Tumwebaze, the MAAIF minister, the tractors will benefit the 340 Sub Counties in all the sub-regions. It is one big tractor per farmer group per district & it is one small tractor per one farmer group per Sub County, Tumwebaze said.
“We are intentional about scaling up mechanization capacity so as to quicken & ease means of land tillage and thus increase the rate of production of our arable land both horizontally & vertically,” he added.
The handover took place at the National Agricultural Mechanization Referral Centre in Namalere Kawanda, Wakiso District. The tractors and equipment were officially received by Norbert Mao, the Constitutional Affairs minister and Hamson Obua, the government Chief Whip.
The tractors have been provided to support agricultural production in the Northern Uganda as a region.
