Celestino Obua Sworn In As UNEB Board Chair
Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has a new board chair, Prof. Celestino Obua. He takes over from Prof. Mary Okwakol. The Minister of State for Higher Education, John Chrysestom Muyingo was present to oversee the switch.
The Executive Director of UNEB, Dan Odongo, said Prof Okwakol’s management epitomized the principles of good governance.
“Unlike cases we sometimes hear of in other institutions where the Board Chairpersons drift towards becoming part of Management and getting involved in the day to day running of the institutions, Professor Okwakol, with the support of the members of the Board, effectively played her role of oversight,” Odongo said.
Management was given the space to implement resolutions and other decisions of the Board, he added.
Odongo pledged full support to Prof. Obua who is currently the vice chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). “On their [UNEB staff] behalf I pledge our total support to you and the Board that you will lead,” Odongo said to Obua.
“We rededicate ourselves to working hard to realise the Board’s vision of being a recognized Centre of Globally Competitive Educational Assessment and Certification, guided by our core values of Accountability, Confidentiality, Teamwork, Innovativeness and Professionalism.” he added.
