Govt assures Sinotruks distributor of support
Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives Minister Sanjay Tanna on Monday held a meeting with the management of Double Q Company Limited, a leading distributor of Sinotruks, other automotive vehicles, and construction equipment in Uganda and East Africa in general.
Sinotruk is a major Chinese state-owned commercial vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Shandong. It is famous for building China’s first heavy-duty truck in 1960, and it produces heavy trucks and light commercial vehicles.
The Managing Director of Double Q Co Limited, Bruce Lin, expressed their interest in partnering with the Government of Uganda to advance Uganda’s automotive industry through investing in automotive manufacturing, assembly, distribution, and other value-added chain activities.
Lin articulated the company’s vision to reduce Uganda’s reliance on imported automotive products by local assembly and value addition to local raw materials such as steel.
Minister Tanna encouraged Double Q Co. Ltd to collaborate with government agencies to benefit from investment incentives. He added that there is a need to develop partnerships that would not only diversify their portfolio but also strengthen local manufacturing capabilities, thereby contributing to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
The Minister pledged his support to Double Q Automotive initiatives. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment for the company and others in the country.
