Uganda Becomes ISO Council Member

KIGALI – The UNBS Executive Director, Eng. James Kasigwa has been elected Council member on the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Group 4 council at the ISO’s annual meeting in Kigali.
This milestone strengthens Uganda’s voice in shaping international standards and advancing quality, standards, equity, safety, and trade globally.
Uganda’s bid for membership in the ISO ongoing Group four (4) of the ISO council 2026-2028 in Kigali, Rwanda, was premised on the conviction that standards are a silent yet critical force for sustainable socio-economic transformation and empowerment that developing economies can leverage for growth and competitiveness in a globalised world.
UNBS Executive Director Eng. James Kasigwa, Managing Director of ECOCA East Africa, and Ruth Komuntale from Uganda took centre stage on the session exploring “The business of impact: Turning needs into Opportunities” Clean Energy, safe sanitation, and dignified living conditions for billions worldwide are still out of reach, but thanks to partnerships and standards, solutions are reaching further than ever.
The session explored how UNBS has contributed to life-changing clean cooking innovations that are impacting and transforming the region, in addition to the support given to MSMEs through standards.
