The National Drug Authority has indicated that the market is flooded with fake Foot and Mouth Disease vaccines. This comes when the country is battling the disease mainly in the cattle corridor districts.

The NDA said that through market surveillance they discovered fake and unauthorized Foot and Mouth Disease vaccines. These include the Purified FMD Fotivax Foot and Mouth Disease Inactivated Vaccine and the National Veterinary Institute Foot and Mouth Disease Broad Spectrum Vaccine.

These products, the NDA said, have not undergone NDA’s approval processes. Therefore, we cannot guarantee their safety, the NDA said in a public statement.

“We remind the public that the FMS vaccines are solely procured and imported by the government through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and distributed by the district local governments through the district veterinary offices,” the NDA said.

Adding: “We call upon the public to remain vigilant, especially in this period of FMD outbreak in some parts of the country, and report anyone suspected to be involved in drug-related crimes,”
