Busoga Consortium For Development Gets Chinese University Agriculture Boost
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the College of International Development and Global Agriculture of the China Agricultural University and the Busoga Consortium For Development was signed on Friday 24th November.
The transformative 5-year agricultural cooperation agreement will facilitate education, the establishment of two agricultural model villages for intercropping maize and Soybeans as well as cassava and beans, and joint hosting of conferences & workshops & joint research initiatives focusing on improving agriculture in Busoga.
The MoU signing which was facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, and the Government of Uganda South-South Cooperation Project was hosted by Rukia Isanga Nakadama, the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister & Chairperson of the Ministerial Coordination Committee of Busoga Consortium For Development.
Busoga Consortium For Development said that with the MOU, they are taking a path to a socially and economically empowered community. The Consortium said they continue to look up to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) & all other relevant stakeholders to ensure the MOU is actualized.
The Cooperation will, therefore, give opportunity to several leaders and farmers of Busoga to learn and draw experiences needed to transform the agricultural sector of Busoga. The Cooperation is designed to complement the Parish Development Model (PDM) by creating a framework for rural agricultural capacity building and transformation in modern agricultural practices.
The BCD and China Agricultural University have enjoyed cordial relations for a while including the recent hosting and extending of training to some of the Local Government leaders of Busoga who visited China in August this year.
