UEGCL New Board of Directors

The new Board of Directors of Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) was sworn into office on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The Minister of State for Energy, Mr Sidronius Okaasai Opoloti, who presided over the function, welcomed the incoming UEGCL Board of Directors, chaired by Dr Florence Lubwama Kiyimba. He also expressed thanks to the outgoing board of directors, chaired by Ms Margaret Njuki, for a job well done.

In his speech, Minister Okaasai urged the incoming Board of Directors to align UEGCL stewardship with Uganda’s ambitious long-term plan to increase installed energy capacity to 52,000MW as enshrined in Vision 2040.

Mr Okaasai also advised the new team to ensure that UEGCL continues to play a pivotal role in powering and lighting up Uganda for a brighter future.

Speaking at the function, Ms Margaret Njuki commended the minister for the unwavering support extended to the outgoing UEGCL board of directors to facilitate its work. She cited key milestones registered by the outgoing board, including the takeover of the Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Namanve, and the commissioning of the 600MW Karuma Hydropower Plant (HPP).

In her speech, Dr Kiyimba said the new board of directors will build on the strong foundation laid down by her immediate predecessors. These include maintaining a close and smooth working relationship with the UEGCL management, shareholders, and other key stakeholders.
