Nyagak Hydro Power Plant(6.6mw) Switched on in Zombo

Minister of Energy and mineral development Dr. Ruth Sentamu Nankabirwa commissioning Nyagak 3 hydro power plant in Zombo district
Today the much-anticipated Nyagak III Hydropower Plant, with a generation capacity of 6.6 megawatts, has officially been commissioned by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Sentamu. With an investment of USD 20 million, the project marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to boost electricity access and reliability in the West Nile sub-region. The facility is expected to enhance electricity supply to Zombo, Nebbi, Arua, Madi Okollo and surrounding districts by supplementing power from the national grid. The plant is expected generate approximately 36.27 GWh annually.

Once fully operational, Nyagak III is expected to transform the socio-economic landscape by addressing long-standing power shortages and unlocking new development opportunities. This clean energy facility also contributes to Uganda’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 7 – ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership, the Nyagak III project is jointly implemented by Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL), Hydromax Limited, and DOTT Services Limited, through their Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Genmax Nyagak Ltd. This follows last year’s historic connection of the West Nile region to the National Grid.
