Tilenga Academy Tees Off 100 Trainees
Uganda Petroleum Institute, Kigumba (UPIK) and TotalEnergies EP Uganda have launched the Tilenga Academy. The UPIK based Academy will see 100 young Ugandans form the first cohort.
The General Manager of TotalEnergies, Philippe Groueix, revealed that the training will empower 200 young Ugandans to work in the oil & gas sector, especially the Tilenga project. Following the training at
UPIK, they [trainees] will undertake further training in France & on the Tilenga project, Groueix stated at the launch.
“Trainees will be employed on the Tilenga project upon the successful completion of the Tilenga Academy training. We are proud to significantly contribute to capacity building of young Ugandans in oil & gas skills and are committed to creating shared value,” Groueix said.
Ernest Rubondo, the Executive Director of Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) said that by launching the Tilenga Academy, TotalEnergies is distinguishing itself in capacity building at the very highest levels in the world & that Uganda benefits tremendously as a country. PAU will continue to support the work of TotalEnergies, he affirmed.
“I congratulate the trainees & I hope you don’t let PAU, TotalEnergies & the country down. I look forward to finding you on the Tilenga project when oil is being produced and processed in the Central Processing Facility because it is part of the training you are undertaking. I also want to see you working with EACOP & the Kingfisher projects,” Rubondo said in a message to the trainees.
“[The]PAU is responsible for regulating & monitoring the oil & gas sector to ensure compliance & optimization of participation of Ugandans in the sector. PAU approved this training programme for 200 Ugandans in oil & gas skills,” he added.
Bernard Ongodia, the Principle of UPIK said the Tilenga Academy aligns with their vision of empowering young people & nurturing talent to ensure sustainable development in Uganda. We are grateful to TotalEnergies for the support & choosing UPIK to train the Tilenga trainees, he stated.
