Equip Students With Work Readiness Skills – Manufacturers
A member of the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) implored universities in Uganda to equip students with work readiness skills beyond the theory.
Dr. Martin Kyeyune, the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Roofings Group said skills such as critical thinking, communication, adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving among others are a must-have for graduate students.
Dr Kyeyune made the remarks on behalf of UMA while speaking as a keynote speaker at the Makerere University 74th graduation ceremony.
Dr Kyeyune said they need to be supported by the government to grow more jobs.
“While our country’s economic growth is estimated at 5.3%, the challenge of generating sufficient jobs for a population growing at 3.2% is evident. That’s where we as manufacturers play a critical role to invest more and create sustainable jobs,” Dr Kyeyune said.
He encouraged graduates to embrace innovation, creativity, and a strong work ethic as they step into the job market.
UMA pledged commitment to working closely with Makerere University to support the graduates by connecting them with potential employers, through her vast membership.
