UNEB Seeks Shs6.5bn For Examiners To Eat
The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) is seeking for extra Shs6.5bn in its 2024/25 budget to cater for the provision of five meals daily, utilities & basic health services to examiners and checkers during marking of examinations, after only Shs10.2bn was provided in the budget, yet the Board requires Shs16.7bn.
UNEB is also in need of additional Shs4.6bn to enhance marking fees for their examiners with the report from Parliament’s Education Committee noting, “The rates paid to examiners as fees is low compared to their work which is demanding. Currently, the board is facing the challenge of the right number of examiners as many consider the current marking rate as inadequate. These funds will facilitate top-up for marking of candidates’ scripts.”
The Examination Board is also seeking Shs1.3bn to enhance the security features on the results lips issued to learners, with Parliament being informed that the funds will cater for the various consumables used by ICT in processing and printing of examinations considering the increases in costs of ICT consumables.
