No One Cares About Your Dev’t – Jeffrey Sachs To Ugandans
A renowned economics professor and a global leader in sustainable development, Jeffrey Sachs, says the development of Uganda solely lies in the hands of Ugandans and not foreigners.
“No one cares about your development other than you, Ugandans should prioritize their development before the foreign investors do,”, Prof. Sachs said.
His words come at a time when Uganda has shown a great appetite for foreign investors and sometimes prioritized over local investors.
Local investors have on several occasions complained that foreign investors have been pampered with incentives like tax holidays that they don’t enjoy.
Sachs advised that Uganda should seek non-traditional and new partners for development finance.
He believes that the next 40 years will be a remarkable period for Africa as the continent approaches the 100th anniversary of the African Union.
It is very important that these 40 years are a period of success and tremendous achievements, especially the SDGs, he said.
The dialogue was organized by the Office of the Prime Minister, UNDP Uganda, Makerere University College of Business and Management Sciences, Uganda Youth Senate, and Makerere University Economics Society.
The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, said the dialogue generated insights for accelerating the implementation of the sustainable development agenda in Uganda.
