Katumba Inaugurates New UCAA Board
The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, Wednesday inaugurated the new Board of Directors of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).
The new board members are Justice Steven Kavuma (Chairperson), Ethel Kamba, Dr. Andrew Alyao Ocero, Thomas James Kiggundu, Lubowa Moses Paul, John Washington Bulindi, Namubiru Sylvia and Ssemugooma Godfrey.
The Board will play an oversight role over UCAA operations for the next three years (2023-2026). The minister expressed optimism in the new board because the majority of the new board members served in the previous Board.Â
“As I have talked to you and other Boards before, the Board should desist from involving yourself in the day-to-day management of UCAA affairs, promote teamwork within the Organization (and avoid cliques), and ensure that Board meetings are held quarterly unless there are emergencies to attend to,” he noted.
He noted the Board has a primary mandate of ensuring strategic supervision and oversight of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority to deliver on its Strategic Plan.
Katumba said the government attaches a lot of importance to the aviation sub-sector because it guarantees the country direct international access.
He said the government’s principal aviation objective is to ensure that Uganda’s air links makes it one of the best-connected countries in the World so that it can compete for economic growth opportunities. Â
