Parliament To Donate Shs1bn To Nsambya Hospital Cancer Unit
The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has revealed that Parliament will contribute Shs1bn towards the construction of the radiation bunkers at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya Cancer Unit.
She said the donation is intended to complement the government’s efforts towards decongesting other institutions offering similar treatment across the country.
The Speaker said President Yoweri Museveni gives Parliament money to donate. And for that matter, Parliament will donate Shs1bn towards the 2024 Cancer Run.
The Speaker made the pronouncement during the launch of the 13th Cancer Run and site visit for the radiation bunkers at Nsambya Hospital.
She said:  “We are making this contribution for the good of the people of Uganda. We live in this country for humanity and where we are able to help one or the other, we will always be grateful and that is where some of us gain our pride from”
“I get proud when I have helped somebody and they can give a smile back. And as the Parliament of Uganda, the people-centered Parliament; we will support the completion of the bunker.
“We will support generously the completion of the banker and when you need the next run next year, we shall still contribute, but we should be able to finish this banker as soon as possible.”
“And I want to assure you that once this banker is completed, it brings a smile to Nsambya Hospital, it brings a smile to all the runners, it brings a smile to all the Rotarians.”
She also urged the administrators of Nsambya Hospital to ensure that the cancer services offered are at a subsidized price because the Cancer unit had been built using funds raised through donations. Â
